How the session goes

Drainage is not a pressure massage. The touch is light and the movement is slow, always towards the lymph nodes, because that is the route the fluid takes to leave. A session runs 60 minutes.

If an area is tender, tell me during the session and I adjust the touch there. Working fast or hard does not make drainage more effective.

Outside Brazil this is often called Brazilian lymphatic drainage. It is the same work: manual, slow, and without machines.

After surgery, your doctor sets the date

The date drainage can start after an operation is not my decision, and it is not one rule I apply to everyone: the surgeon or doctor who looked after you is the one who clears it. The same goes for how many sessions make sense.

In our first conversation I ask what you were told at the follow-up appointment, and we book from there. I wrote about that period in more detail in the article on lymphatic drainage after surgery.

I work at your home, and also in hospitals and clinics. Where massage is not advisable for a medical condition, I only work with a signed medical clearance. After surgery I start from seven days, also with signed medical authorisation. If it helps, forward this page to whoever is looking after you.

After a long flight, and in the heat

Swollen ankles after ten hours in a seat are one of the most common reasons people message me in their first days in Rio. Heavy legs at the end of a hot day are the other. I wrote about both in swollen legs after a long flight.

Swelling on one side only, with calf pain, redness or a fever, is a reason to see a doctor before booking any massage.

COMMON QUESTIONS

What people ask before a first drainage session

When can I start after surgery?

When the surgeon or doctor who looked after you clears it. That clearance sets the date, not my calendar.

Does drainage hurt?

It is not a firm-pressure massage. The touch is light and slow. If an area is tender, tell me and I adjust there.

Is it the same as drainage plus contouring?

No. They are different sessions at different prices: lymphatic drainage is 60 minutes for R$ 250, drainage plus contouring is 60 minutes for R$ 350.

Can you come to my hotel or apartment?

Yes. I also come to hotels and holiday apartments in the Zona Sul — the front desk just needs to be told in advance.

Do you go to the hospital, or only to homes?

Both. I work at your home, and also in hospitals and clinics. When we set the date, tell me where you will be that day.

Tell me the address and the day. I bring the rest.

Same-day reply. No sign-up, no app.
